The scientific research conducted by the teachers of the Department takes place within the area of Political and Socio-economic Transformations in Ukraine: Results, Problems and Prospects (1991-2010). The research is managed by I. Dudko, ScD in Political Science. All teachers of the Department are involved into research into this area. 

In addition, the teachers are focused on the research into issues of the socio-political development of Ukraine in late 19th and early 20th centuries; the problems of the development of the Ukrainian regions in 1920s and 1930s, the problems of the political development of the independent Ukraine, the problems of contemporary international relations and Ukraine's role therein, the problems of the socio-economic and political development of post-Soviet countries.

There is a students' scientific group at the Department. Teachers of the Department provide students with substantial assistance with the preparation of their presentations at annual University-level academic conferences of students.
